Preventative Screenings

Being physically active, eating a well-balanced diet and getting regular health screenings are all essential for good health. The greatest potential for cancer cure is prevention or early diagnosis. Clinical preventive services are recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force.

If you are an employee on our health plan taking part in Wellness Our Way and would like to receive your Quarter 3 incentive for 2012, you will need to obtain the appropriate health screening(s) by 9/28/12.

The required screenings are age and gender specific as listed below:

  • Colorectal Cancer Tests: Women and men begin regular screening for colorectal cancer starting at age 50. Your physician can help you decide which test is right for you and how often you need to be tested. Generally, a routine colonoscopy beings at this age, and then every 10 years, but there may be reasons to begin earlier so please consult your physician.
  • Mammograms: Women should have a mammogram every 1 to 2 years, starting at age 40.
  • Pap Smears: Women should have a Pap Smear every 1 to 3 years if you have been sexually active or are older than 21.

You are also required to visit your primary care physician for your annual physical. During this visit, please discuss other preventive screenings as well as Vitamin D and how it may improve your health.

Your active participation is essential to maintaining your good health. To that end, Adventist Health System has waived in-network facility co-pays in 2012 for the following exams:

  • Annual Physical Exam (well adult, well baby, well woman)
  • Pap Test
  • PSA Test
  • Immunizations (annual flu shot and age appropriate immunizations)
  • Screening Mammogram
  • Dexa Scan for Osteoporosis
  • Screening Colonoscopy
